Kitted Up

It's here, the new Argyle strip for the new 12/13 season

Going back to Puma as manufacturer and the canary yellow away kit of a few years ago, but with a hit of the classic 'Topps' kit that was a retro hit with the fans by having the band across the chest.  Now the New World is the old world, the club's crest is its rightful incarnation, and in a new departure for Argyle, is that sponsorship I spy on the back as well as the front. The kits will go on sale first from 9am on Saturday 11 August, although pre-orders will be taken in store, on line and by telephone from Wednesday1 August.
All in all a very smart kit, although you can't please everyone - where's the Argyle black and the green is the wrong shade again.  Still won't be the Green Army without something to moan about.  At least we're not being forced to play in red like Cardiff.

Kitted Out II

The "new" Argyle 2011/12 kit is now on sale (large and extra large yet to be released though!).

The hope for a new kit - as opposed to the temporary kit - has not materialised and the temporary kit has been given a 125 year makeover, and a white away shirt - a 'negative' of the home shirt added instead.

The Name's Bond...

...W H Bond.

The new kit and sponsors have been revealed just in time for the new season in Argyle tradition of waiting till the last minute. The new Puma made green home and white away kits will bear Cornish family business W H Bond Timbers' name for the season, with future sponsorship dependant upon on pitch performance.

The new all green kit will please many fans, especially as the much derided red Ginsters logo has been consigned to history and the Bond Timber logo fits in well with no jarring colour contrast, although Ginsters are still alleged to have interest in the club.

However, it's not without the usual puzzlement that eminates from Home Park as of late. What does Ridsdale mean when he said:

"When we spoke to WH Bond & Sons about our predicament [regarding lack of kit], the first thing they did - which I think is an indication of a relationship that is outstanding - is they wrote a cheque so that we will have a kit to play in.

"Not only against Shrewsbury, but also in home games coming forward before - ultimately - the main kit that we are hoping to play in for the rest of the season will arrive."

So what - ultimately - is the main kit they are hoping to play in?

Kit Verdict

The new home strip has featured in Yahoo!'s top 10 worst kits of the new season. Just this season's?

Kitted Out

The long awaited kit for 2010/11 has been launched by Argyle and Adidas, and is an homage to the original green and black striped livery of yesteryear. Not too keen on the shoulder pads though.

Kit Off

Two days left until the unveiling of the new kit for the new season, with three possible on the club website.

1. Return of black stripes?
2. Corporate colours black and gold (Wolves?)
3. This one looks very familiar, but with the new badge

Exciting Times

You may be able to poke your enthusiasm with a wet flannel but there are changes afoot at Argyle that should get the brain, if not the heart, racing.

New Pitch

The new pitch is going in at Home Park right this minute. A sore needed improvement to the playing surface has been apparent for who can remember how long. Though it may not be ready till a few weeks after the season has started. Oops

New Manager

There should be a new manager incumbent at Home Park soon (imminently?), well certainly by the start of pre-season. Hopefully. Who will it be? Will be be the right guy who is able to raise the Titanic and put the 5 year plan back on track? Will he be given enough investment? Who knows?

New Investment

Maybe

No Naked Matches

Probably a disappointment for some of the ladies, but the away kit was launched today. It appears some people got a sneak peak at what it would be when the club accidentally released a negative version of it instead of the long sleeve home shirt.

After the last few years of dabbling with tangergreen, yellow and black, Argyle have returned to the new 'traditional' green and white colour scheme and have a two smart shirts.

Black and Grey Barmy Army

The new Argyle leisure wear is now available at the new look Argyle Centre Spot. And Plymouth Argyle seem to now be paying homage to newly relegated Newcastle United. Everything's gone black and grey.

Now traditionally Argyle's colours have been Green and Black, then white joined in and more recently gold, yellow and orange have crept in. So in some ways we're going back to basics, however, where is the green? Argyle are just one of 2 English league clubs who play mainly in green, but you would not have thought that by looking at the leisure range. Adidas's new kits for us have been off the peg and so is their leisurewear, so whilst they can be applauded in some way of rejecting pink, luminous yellow, orange, brown, red, azure (though, we haven't seen the away kit yet!), this may just be taking things one step too far.

Kit Unveiled

Argyle unveiled their new home kit for next season today following the new deal with Adidas as manufacturer.

The predominantly green with the trademark 3 white stripes down each arm, is joined by 2 white sweeps across the right breast and side and a left white sleeve (this is not going to make Cosmo), whilst the goalkeeper's kit is pale blue. Both kits feature the new look club crest which is now backed by a circle containing the name of the club and a large sponsor's logo across the chest.

Adidas is under contract to provide a new home kit every season and a new away kit every other season (so reversing the current trend) for four seasons.

The new kit is available for pre-order and will be available to buy from outlets over the summer. The away kit has not yet been launched.

Make Stripes Three

So further to my concern over Argyle playing naked next season, Argyle announced today that Adidas will be the shirt manufacturer for next season, confirming suspicions. The new kits will be revealed in a weeks' time at the Barnsley game and will be pre-orderable from then. This will explain why there was no fans' vote - because there was no choice! But a coup for Argyle to negotiate with yet another big company. It's come along way from SuperLeague.

Playing Naked

I can only presume currently that next year Argyle players will be running out in the pitch naked. Aside from increasing the female attendance next year, there'd probably be an added excuse for Sturrock of aerodynamic lag slowing down the players (some very bad images coming to mind now - some of which involve a razor).

But anyway, at a time when most teams will be announcing their kit for next season, indeed QPR will be wearing theirs against us on Saturday, there has been no movement on the subject in Plymouth aside from announcing the continuing sponsor of Ginsters.

There are far more pressing issues at Home Park at the moment to be getting on with and with the alleged change of shirt manufacturer is probably slowing down the process. Though certainly we know that the away shirt will defintely change. But with just one league game to go, it would be nice to know whether to spend £30ish over the summer before the season ends.

Well, Who'd've Guessed It?

Next year's away kit, by popular demand (38%) will be Tangerine coloured.

Never saw that coming.

I much prefer the April Fool's Tartan Version

It's Going to be Orange isn't it?

Any point in voting in Argyle's latest poll to decide the colour of next season's away kit? It's bound to be orange.

"Boffins" (as Sparksy puts it) have now discovered the most successful kit colour,
but maybe a red kit is going too far.

New Kit -a Big Joke?

Has this season's (2007/08) new home and away kits turned into one big joke? There seems to have been nothing but complications in getting it ready and released to the Argyle massive this summer.

The palaver started back towards the end of the 2006/07 season when supporters were invited to suggest colour schemes for the new away kit, this then turned into a vote on the final colour. Democracy in action. Or was it? The final colours came out as the traditional green, white, and black, along with silver and yellow. Unofficial votes saw silver as the main colour of choice. However as the the new kit was revealed in June it was to be yellow with green flashes - reminiscent of Norwich City. This took many supporters by surprise to say the least. The home kit was not up for negotiation.

Then there was the delay in announcing the sponsorship. The kit design preview drawings were released with the word SPONSOR in place of the Ginsters logo, this led to speculation about a new sponsorship deal. But when the announcement it was Ginsters again with a new deal. Now sponsorship deals are a complex process and there was probably a lot of background dealing and counter-dealings that led to this delay. But this has probably affected all the events which followed.

We are now nearly 1 week away from the start of the new season without any clear date on when supporters will be able to get their hands on them. At the opening of Centre Spot on Tuesday I was told the release will be 6 August, today - two days later - it is now being quoted as 10th August - 1 day before the new season starts!

Replica kits are a big money spinner for football clubs. Unfortunately they have also been part of merchandising corruption - with a kit costing £40 to buy the leading sports shops have been found guilty of price fixing the leading Premiership and National shirts. Even though this doesn't apply to Argyle, they have been sucked into the stance, because of Puma, that there has to be a new strip for every new season - the away shirt has been changed 3 times and the home twice in 3 seasons, with the new strips are only due to last for 1 season.

It has been a long held opinion that supporters are being taken for a ride over replica kits, and whilst Argyle have avoided the pitfalls so far, the last few years there is growing disquiet over how this part of their merchandising is being handled.

Supporters can get their hands on the new 2007/08 season merchandising - mostly featuring the yellow of the new away strip. The new home and away kits are due to be launched on Monday 6 August.

The official launch date for the new city centre shop Argyle Centre Spot is July 31st, this coincides with the launch of the new kit and a special "Calendar Girls" calendar (only with blokes!) featuring the staff of Argyle in aid of Sparksy's Have a Ball with Sparksy. Will we see a return of such delights as:
