The skipper has abandoned the ship. Former Argyle captain Simon Walton has left the club to join Hartlepool United next season due to family issues. Walton made 66 appearances for the Greens in 4 seasons and was the highest goal scorer last season whilst also acting as captain. His move up north will allow him to spend more time with his family in Leeds, and leaves behind a disappointed Carl Fletcher who paid tribute to the work he did in ensuring the club's league status last season.

Adieu notre ami
One of the finest men to don the Green/White/Black/Orange/Yellow shirt announced his retirement yesterday. David Friio's mate has enjoyed his testimonial year and promotion to player/coach, but has now hung up his keeper's gloves on the upright. Good bye Romain Larrieu.
Le keeper made a total of 317 appearances for the Greens (and only 3 other players every to have played for PAFC can boast higher) over 11 and a half years service, and was always considered number 1 between the sticks - even when younger keepers such as McCormick, Stack, Cole were regularly picked first. Larrieu's gentlemanly stance made him a firm favourite and he was appointed club captain and had a song dedicated to him ('We all dream of a team of Larry-Os'). Ro publically played out his battle with testicular cancer whilst at the club - not once but twice - and has been a faithful servant though the ups and downs, thick and thin. Although Romain will no longer feature on the pitch as player, it is hoped that he will be able to continue in his role as coach. We shall see. But for now, for all your work between the stick.

Wottsy Returns
Another ex Argyle player has returned to Home Park as a new signing. This time former captain Paul 'bleeds green' Wotton has signed up alongside Nick Chadwick after being released by Yeovil. There's no denying that Wotton was always an Argyle lad at heart and was the most successful captain making 400+ appearances for the Green, scoring 63 goals over 17 years and saw two promotions. Wotton was released by Argyle 3 and a half years ago and joined Southampton, before going on loan to Oxford and ended at west country rivals Yeovil.
Wotton is now the second former player to have rejoined this January transfer window, with rumours flying round that following his sacking, Warnock could be heading this was form QPR, who else could be re-donning a green shirt? Bojan Djordic is another potential for one. Nalis? Buszaky? Ebanks-Blake? (getting carried away now)

Light at the End of the Tunnel?
A week has passed since Christmas, which saw Argyle enjoy a fantastic win against Rovers, when they came back from 2-0 down to win 2-3. This week sees the news that Argyle should be able to clear their debt with the HMRC following the fire sale of several players, including Noone, Johnson and now Wright-Philips. Although fire selling our best players is a great way of increasing income but is no way to secure any possibility of a future for the club in footballing terms. A ray of light for Argyle fans in terms of the survival of their beloved club, but yet more agonising as to how much longer all this is going to go on.

Ar-Giggle
A throw away reference by a mate (see Gary) that was quite inspired but lost on most of the people around. Argyle have literally become a joke to many. From the lack of ambition that goes back decades, to the poor performances, bad signings and selling off of the good ones. Why does every player that signs for Argyle turn inept at their job, and as soon as they're sold receive the Midas touch? How many ex-Argyle players are now banging in the goals for their new clubs, and even worse how many of them have been against the Greens?
The complete lack of being able to string together any sort of consistency has seen gates yo-yo in what has become predictable of good performance on a low gate - gates rise for the next game, Argyle get stuffed - only this time round the good performances are only flashes in the pan. Plymothians have never been given any reason to be proud of its football club. They came close in the Holloway era but were hesitant. And proven right. Even now if they do turn up, the ticketing situation has become a shambles if you are to read the football forums, and they can't even get in!
The club is systematically being pulled apart on and off the pitch - there is no team effort from players, management or supporters alike. But then again, has much actually really changed?

Marcel Seip
Will never play for that man again and is delighted to have scored on Saturday. And in all honesty, I can't blame him. He's been expunged from Argyle's official site already and he's only on loan. Hopefully should Sturrock go he may consider staying for the new man.

A Little bit of Spice
Sturrock says that Seip HAS to play against us on Saturday 1) to give the game an added edge; 2) because he'd never have gone on load if the clause to not play was not removed; and 3) he hasn't played many games and playing for the Seasiders will allow interested parties to have a look at him.
So
1) given that the game is against Argyle's worst enemy (sic) I hardly think it needs an edge, given that Holloway has taken Blackpool to the top of the table whilst Sturrock has dropped Argyle like a stone.
2) why the hell has he gone on loan in the first place? A part from a severe dislike by Sturrock, a fall out in the dressing room, he is now the second most hated man at Home Park (sic). Especially as our Centre Backs are now all injured.
3) Seip's a gonner as soon as there's an offer.

Departure
The end of the month sees two departures from Argyle, namely keeper Graham Stack will have his contract terminated on 1st August, and Michael Dunford will leave from 31st July.
Stack's departure comes as a welcome relief to many as he is seen as a rotten apple who's caused dissent and rot in the heart of team spirit, whilst Dunford's departure is more natural following the take over and his tenure coming to an end. Dunford has lead from the helm for many years and has over seen a lot of good at Argyle, but is also felt to have caused stumbling blocks and in more recent years held the club back. What ever both should be wished well in their future.

As there's bugger all exciting happening, here's a few titbits from last week.
The Takeover
"Days away" is the new "imminent" as the takeover is week on week just 'days away',]although this week is has now become elusive but Stapleton is not worried but confident that there is no problems of 'relationships' causing tensions and delays. Last week it was learnt that Americans have been connected with K&K's interest. These things do take time to complete properly - we don't want to be going off half cocked do we? - but it ain't half frustrating that it's not done and dusted so the 'rebuilding' of the team can take place.

Homegrown Luke Summerfield has extended his stay at Home Park. Summers is a love-hate player who divides opinion because of his standard of play and his ability to be picked above other players when he's going badly.
On a brighter note, after a year of trying, Sturrock finally got his man by signing Carl Fletcher permanently to become the Pilgrim's first signing of the summer. Fletcher is more favoured among the Green Army and the signing has been the high point so far.
And in the rumours, ex player, Graham Coughlan could be returning to Home Park to take up a coaching role. Cocko was a well liked and respected player during his time for the Greens but does he have the necessary to coach a Championship team?

McCormick Sentenced
Luke McCormick has been sentenced for 7 years and 4 months after pleading guilty to driving under the influence and causing 2 deaths by dangerous driving earlier this year. McCormick was twice over the legal limit when the landrover he was driving crashed into a car killing two children and severely injuring the driver. McCormick left Argyle this summer though mutual consent.
McCormick's case has caused consternation throughout the country and many will say, and have already said, that this sentence is not justice enough for what he has done - although the relatives are "pleased" with the verdict but not his eligibility for parole after 3 years and that Luke will still be a relatively young when released. McCormick has wasted 4 lives through his actions and will probably never recover - if he survives his imprisonment.

Easter to go
Circumstances that cannot be resolved at Plymouth mean that Jermaine Easter is to leave Argyle. Easter has fallen out of favour with supporters and to many will not be a great loss to the side, but we can hardly be letting any more players leave!

Timar Signs, McCormick Leaves
Kristian Timar has agreed to and signed a 3 year contract with Plymouth Argyle, ending suspicion that he might be following Halmosi out of the door. Timar was voted last season's player of the season.
Meanwhile Luke McCormick has had his contract terminated my mutual consent. McCormick was the driver of a vehicle that crashed and caused the deaths of two boys on the M6 back in June.

Peter Halmosi has left the West Country and to make his new home in the new Premier League city of Hull for a rumoured £1.75 million just over half of what Argyle said they wanted for him.
In a time when all the blame is put on the supporters for not attending, the release of yet another of Argyle's better players with no sign of a like-for-like replacement (or indeed any replacement), its wearing very thin with some fans. The straw that broke the camel's back is homing nearer and nearer. At the moment many will be seeing a club which has little to no hope of competing this season with no players and no money and the possibility of relegation is being taken seriously.

McCormick Latest
Luke McCormick has been bailed until September charged with two counts of Death by Dangerous Driving and one count of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol. The charge of Driving without Insurance has been dropped due to McCormick producing a valid insurance certificate.

McCormick in fatal M6 crash
Luke McCormick has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following a fatal car crash in which two children died. The club has released a press statement to the affect that it in inappropriate for them to comment at this time.
McCormick was driving his Range Rover which was involved in the crash with a Toyota Previa on Saturday morning.

Out at Home with a Bang
Plymouth Argyle 3 (Easter 4, Fallon, 25, Fallon 55) - 0 Blackpool
When it mattered Argyle couldn't win for toffee, but now the pressure's off, wham a 3-0 victory. One of life's mysteries.
The last home game of the season was busy because of the traditional end of season party which includes the player of the season awards (McCormick 3rd, Halmosi 2nd, Timar 1st), and lap of appreciation, but also saying goodbye to 4 Argyle stalwarts Hodges, Nalis, Connolly and Wotton.
In spite of stating that none of the leavers would play, Sturrock chose Hodges to be on the bench - maybe he had run out of ideas - in a much changes team from last Saturday, although Hodges only made a late substitution. The change played dividend as Easter bagged an early goal, which funnily enough did not come too early as Sturrock had stated in an earlier match. Thankfully this time Fallon followed up with two headed goals to secure the win as Argyle didn't capitulate to a Blackpool come back. Sturrock used the game to give Dan Smith his debut who looked swift in his short appearance.
The win does nothing but ensure that Argyle remain 10th in the table, 1 place higher than last season. A loss at Wolves next Sunday will mean that if Burnley win Argyle will drop to 11th equalising last season's finish. Which technically does not match the club's new 'onward and upward' mantra or show progress. However in light of the turbulent season can we really argue?
